If there is one thing that Facebook does for me, it’s distract.

Now that Scrabulous is kaput, my daily minutes logged peeking into friends lives (or should I say using the robot to kick Ken’s ass at Scrabulous) should have dropped exponentially.

Who was I kidding?

I talk to friends who live four blocks away more on Facebook than in real life. A few pals and I have had to ban it as our mode of communication - an evening of drinks is so much more rewarding in the girlie gossip universe.

And, for all of its sucking valuable time from an already insane work schedule, I am on a beautiful Facebook binge reconnecting with friends from high school.

Twenty years of career building, hopping from City to City, now country to country, the ties between me and most of the folks I loved during that time are a bit threadbare out of sheer not knowing where any of us were.

Facebook, you lovely piece of wayback machinery.

We were all so connected in those days that when one of us friends someone on Facebook the whole crew drops in to catch up.

I totally love it.

Bruce Springsteen is now playing in background…or was that Prince…maybe even Yaz.

Just what I needed.

In the midst of attempting to earn the equivalent of a business, law and finance degree in 6 weeks or less it’s become my goal to make sure that when an hour of free presents itself that it’s all about taking that time, heading for fun and soaking it in.

Nothing monumental, just walks in the park, silly dancing in the living room, sitting out in the backyard garden snacking on beans and chatting about life.

It seems that at those times when I am stretching myself the most I actually want to make sure that I am making the most out of every single moment available.

Such a good lesson in living life well, to the maximum, without any sense of missing or lost.

Plus, when you know every moment has got to count, it does - no matter what is happening.

And, it appears newly amazing.

After the first day of hockey camp, M came home with the full report on skating, stick handling and, of course, her stint as goalie.

“Did anyone score on you?” I asked.

“Nooooooo…” she said with a big grin. “They were too scared.”

After seven hours of hanging with the lovely and amazing Mussellam crew yesterday, I have to say that I am remarkably blob-like this morning.

All energy focused on relaxing and visiting made my body think we were done being insane…no such luck buddy, the insanity has literally just begun.

For all of you near and far who are not hearing much (or at all) from us lately, please don’t take it personally.

Our days are currently packed with design elements, CSS, SEO, hiring, negotiating, planning, teeth grinding, waking dreams of sleep and the occasional round of parenting.

OK, so parenting is coming first. But, this exceptional stint of business has forced us to rethink our parenting ways at some levels.

Ken brilliantly came up with “crazy time,” a now daily series of hours when acting loud, silly and goofy is the norm.

It has relieved SO much afternoon yuck…and M&D discovered silliness at a time when that one isn’t much expected.

I do, though, wish I could discover some hidden time to blob out.

Some time in 2020 we expect to be able to take an hour or two.

I wish for the energy of a 3-year-old.

Welcome to the giants of the garden.

Last night, we got all old skool and whipped out some zucchini fries.

Today - well, more likely tomorrow - zucchini muffins.

Definitely no worries about running out of the main ingredient

Well, it wasn’t the Hollyhock on our walk that turned M a bit red.

But, I’m suspecting a lengthy run of sugar and other birthday goo, some other not-so-allergy-friendly eating and a brush with poison sumac out on the trail recently are the culprits.

For a minute there, we thought it was measles.

She’s on the mend, sassy as ever, confused as to why giant, red blotches would ever keep her down.

Ah, childhood.

Our Summers are always full of walks.

But, my favourite are the family ones where we’re out exploring - even if it ends up in mosquito bites (me only for some reason) and an unidentified rash.

This forest near Comox Lake was gorgeous, and a bit more challenging, and very cool.
